About the Library

Officially established March 4th 2012, The Cottage Grove Public Library has been an evolving fixture of Downtown Cottage Grove for over a hundred years.  From its early days in the attic of the old City Hall building, to the historic Bank Building, to the W.A. Woodard building-it most recently moved to the The Gibbs building in 2000 via a historic community event known as The Book Brigade. Over 400 residents and volunteers participated in hand over hand relocation of books from the shelves of the Woodard building across down town to the shelves of the Gibbs building. The Gibbs building itself was purchased by the city with the vast majority of funds coming from local private donors as well as a myriad of philanthropic foundations for specific use as a library and community center.

Since its establishment, Cottage Grove Public Library has been an institution made possible by the generous philanthropy of W.A Woodward Foundation, the Cottage Grove Foundation, and innumerable community organizations and local private donors in partnership with the City of Cottage Grove. Over its many long years it has become a proud Partner in History with other local organizations dedicated to preserving and appreciating Cottage Grove’s historical character and continues to provide the citizens of Cottage Grove with quality access to lifelong educational resources.
