Reserve Officer Program
Cottage Grove Police Department's Reserve Officers are sworn police officers who assist regular officers in the performance of their duties. This includes answering emergency calls, rendering aid, making arrests, and testifying in court. Reserve officers wear the same uniforms and use the same equipment as their full-time counterparts. Naturally, Cottage Grove Police Department provides a tremendous amount of ongoing training so that each member remains proficient. By the same token, full-time officers and reserves are held to the same demanding standards.
Following the application phase and reserve academy, our reserves are required to work a minimum of 16 hours a month. This time can be volunteered in a variety of ways. The majority of time is spent with a full-time officer on patrol. During the summer months, reserves are requested to work a variety of special events. Reserves have participated in the Bohemia Mining Days, Bohemia Mining Day Parade, as well as other local events. Reserves also assist with prisoner transports and pickup from the county jail.
Cottage Grove Police Department Reserve Officers are a respected and important part of our organization. This respect, training, and experience has helped many members pursue a full-time career in the criminal justice system.
In order to apply to be a Police Reserve Officer with our department,
you must be able to attend or have already attended and graduated from a Law Enforcement Reserve Academy. Reserve Academy training is available at Lane County Community College and Umpqua Community College.
